Contract Renewal?

Posted in My Life on August 30, 2004 by kritter

Sprint is pissing me off. First I was ticked because it doesn’t seem like I can get unlimited text messaging for a decent price. They want me to get vision, but I don’t need it. I just want to text. But much much worse, my minutes are all screwed up this month. I check online almost every day. Last week, I thought my minutes looked high, but it wasn’t until today that I realized something must be seriously wrong. It appears that all of my night and weekend minutes are going onto my peak. I talked a lot this weekend and it is saying I have only talked 52 minutes off-peak for the last 2 weeks whereas I am almost 200 minutes over on my peak minutes. I have until Sept 16 before my cycle renews!!! I can’t afford it and my cell is my only phone! I have never ever talked that much. I called and spoke to them today and they said they can’t do anything until my cycle is over and they get all the details of my phone calls. I begged because by that time, I will insanely over and unable to pay such a bill. I am really freaking out.

I found out that my contract ends on Sept. 2. Anyone have suggestions? As in, how to deal with this situation or to recommend another company to switch to…

Also, my friends, please please try to call me after 8 (if that even helps), e-mail me or call my work number during the day. I’m sorry, but I am at a loss.

Hero

Hero is the most beautiful film I have ever seen. It was so visually striking that I found myself slack-jawed. Anyone who has doubted film is an art form, could not possibly walk away unconvinced. I have rarely seen a painting so moving. Whoever composed those film shots- anyone involved- deserves an Oscar of the first degree.

Much of the beauty of the film revolved around color. Primary colors. The film developed amongst four major flashbacks, or versions of the events that led to the confrontation between Nameless (Jet Li) and the King of Qin. Red, blue, green and white costumes of flowing fabric were literally startlingly gorgeous. Fabric truly played a large role in the beauty of the film.

The landscape of China was key, but not so much as just the basic awe of nature. Wind-stirred leaves and placid lakes were background to some of the best choreographed martial arts I have ever seen. The Matrix-styled bullet time, slapped raindrops on the the face of Nameless. It wasn’t all about how fast and original the moves were (and they were) but more about the fluidity of motion, the setting of the fight and the emotion of the warriors.

And wrapped into the inspiring beauty was a moral plot of love, identity and unity. The story, probably based on legend, took place over 2000 years ago. The recreation of China at the time was something I never seen. What a splendored nation. What ideals we could never imagine. What discipline.

This film is not Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I could tell that within the first 20 seconds of scenes. Of course, a person can compare. It’s epic and Chinese. It has extraordinary martial arts and great cinematography. It’s moral and moving. But somehow, it totally different. It stands completely on its own. I can only hope that it is widely seen and acknowledged like it deserves.

Feeling Special

Posted in My Life on August 24, 2004 by kritter

Last night, I spread the word in a limited way that I would be at Olympia from 5:15 to 7:15 to toast my b-day. I didn’t want it to be just another Monday, but the main activities are planned for Friday. I literally thought only two people would be there with me. Nine people showed up! I feel really special.
