Off For the Weekend

Posted in My Life on September 29, 2006 by kritter

I’m off to KC for the weekend to camp and Ren Faire. I can’t wait for the crackling warmth of the campfire.  Mmmm.

Today was my last day at the temp job I have been at for 6 weeks. I gave my notice because I am starting a new job Monday. I will be working at a company several of my friends have worked at. My primary function will be proofreading with a touch of research. It’s actually a new position in this company, and hopefully I will be able to help form it. For now, I have been hired on as a project person, which guarantees at least two months of work. That’s perfect for me. It allows both of us to work with the new position and see if we like it, while additionally allowing me time to save for and research my other goals. I’m excited to be working with language again. Beyond that, it is as safe and comforting, if not more so, than my next temp job might be. So I will quell my anxieties and enjoy me weekend.  (Arrr, I already slipped into me pirate character. I’m dressing in Tracie’s extra garb.)

I’ll think of you while I am eating marshmallows and playing my guitar.

Domino

Red Box Movie:

Domino was a pretty cool movie. Wild and intense though. It’s “based on a true story… sort of.” You do get to meet the real Domino Harvey in the extras. And she is absolutely something else. The whole thing is worth knowing someone like that existed. Domino is the real-life daughter of old-time actor Laurence Harvey. When she didn’t fit in the 90210 scene, she started playing with weapons. After becoming bored with being a model, Domino became a bounty hunter.

The action and editing is what makes it intense. I like films like that. It’s definitely violent and a bit gory though. I don’t give the movie my highest rating ever because it was slightly hard to follow at times. However, I do recommend it for people who like this kind of thing. Probably my favorite role that have seen Keira Knightley do. Edgy. And lot of other great actors like Mickey Rourke, Delroy Lindo, Lucy Liu, Christopher Walken, some people from the TV show 90210 and whoever Edgar Ramirez is. Purr.

Superman Returns

Movie Theatre Movie:

I’m kinda behind on some of these postings, and because I have let so much time pass, they will probably not be terribly detailed.

Before it came out, my roommate and I agreed we wanted to see Superman Returns in the theatre. There are just certain films that need a big screen to do them justice. Finally, when the movie came out, the reviews were mediocre at best. Word from friends was mixed. Most people were terribly dissappointed it seemed. The wind went out of my sails for paying the big bucks.

Still, my roommate noted the last day it was going to be showing at the Ronnie’s IMAX and we finally made it on that day. I have to admit I wasn’t excited about it. But I am very glad I saw the movie. Maybe it’s because I am not a huge superman fan and hardly remember the original films. I didn’t have any of that to be picky about. I enjoyed the story, the acting, the special effects and the 3D IMAX scenes. I actually came out of the movie pretty stoked and it had been a while since that had happened.

Today’s Second Reading

Posted in Religion on September 25, 2006 by kritter

Where do the wars
and where do the conflicts among you come from?
Is it not from your passions
that make war within your members?
You covet but do not possess.
You kill and envy but you cannot obtain;
you fight and wage war.
You do not possess because you do not ask.
You ask but do not receive,
because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

Never in My Life

Posted in Observations on September 25, 2006 by kritter

Never in my life did I think I would see a gallon of gas priced below $2 again.

Tonight, I filled up at $1.99 in Lincoln, Illinois tonight, halfway between my hometown and here.

My eyes strained in disbelief when I caught sight of that numeral – one. Wow.

Seki

Posted in My Life on September 19, 2006 by kritter

If you ever want a very unique sushi dining experience, make your way to Seki in the Loop. It’s across the side street from Saleem’s and next to Tomatillo, I believe. The sushi is pretty good. Not phenominal, but good and reasonable. It’s the waitresses that are something else. A friend commented last night that it was a Saturday Night Live skit waiting to happen. I’ve had two waitresses there and they are quite similar, but last night’s was above and beyond. They are older Japanese women who are clearly sick of waitressing. They must think all obviously American people do not know how to order or eat sushi. They’re a little on the grumpy side and will freely complain if you ask too many questions about what’s in a roll with a Japanese name or God forbid, you want to split your bill. Very entertaining, in a terrifying way.
