Today’s Second Reading

Where do the wars
and where do the conflicts among you come from?
Is it not from your passions
that make war within your members?
You covet but do not possess.
You kill and envy but you cannot obtain;
you fight and wage war.
You do not possess because you do not ask.
You ask but do not receive,
because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

– James 4:1-3

  1. James, of course, is speaking about prayer; and, what organized Christian religions fail to teach is that not all prayers are heard by God. He is, after all, quite selective, hearing the prayers of only those who love Him. “We know that we love God because we obey His Law.”

    You have done a great job of rendering James’ words. You might be interested in an article I posted, “Are ALL Prayers Heard,” here at http://bonnieq.wordpress.com — I don’t recall if it were posted in August or September.

  2. Hm. Interesting. He may be speaking of prayer, but I posted these verses as they are because they moved me to think of my internal war over my passions versus God’s will. I think many people can think of their personal, selfish desires when reading this. But could it also be applied on a global level?
