Dollar Coins
I’ve often wished our country would take a more global approach to money. By that I mean that most other countries around the world have many more coin denominations, as well as more colorful paper money. But when it comes down to it, how do I feel about carrying around $1 coins? Truly, when traveling abroad, one’s pockets can get quite heavy. And is making the dollar a coin one step further in devaluing the dollar in our skyrocketing cost of living? The above-linked article cites rising prices at soda machines and parking meters. The dollar coin just makes it all that much easier. Really, I don’t think the coin will have the usage they hope until they commit to it – flood the market and decrease the paper printing.
What do you all think of one-dollar coins?

I’m sure they can’t be much heavier than quarters… I guess they’re not that bad. It’d be interesting to see if they get rid of paper $1 bills completely.

I see no need to have the same denomination in two forms – give me paper or give me coin but not both. I prefer to keep the paper, lighter weight, and as you pointed out – the paper stuff has more value than the coins do. I know plenty of people that basically treat their coins as if they are not money at all – they refuse to use the coins….if only everyone I knew that had no respect for their coins would donate all their coins to me, then I could afford my coffee obsession…AND I would want the dollars in coin form.

You crack me up. Exactly my point.
