Spring
I don’t know who I am kidding when I say spring OR fall are my favorite seasons. Not anymore. Sure, colorful leaves are pretty, but let’s face it, they are dying. I’ve often lamented having to put away my skirts and sandals. And the last couple years I have almost felt an anxiety about the cold, dead months.
Spring it is, hands down. Everything is coming to life. I love landscaping. I will walk around my neighborhood and just stare at yards and beautiful flowers and trees – sometimes stopped dead in my tracks by a brilliant hue. I’ve also discovered that the Botanical Gardens are free every Saturday before noon. A weekly morning walk??? I will be practically living in the place this summer between that and Jazz in the Garden on Wednesday nights.
And nowadays, summer comes in second for me. Yes, it is hot. But I just love summer activities – music, camping, festivals, travel, etc.
Anyway, what I think I really wanted to say in this entry is that I cannot think of ONE REASON why anyone with a decent-sized yard and the right climate would NOT have an azalea AND a dogwood.

ew, absolutely not. I’ve got a reason: dogwoods stink.
Japanese apricots, weeping cherries, hawthorns, silk trees … all beautiful, though some of them I haven’t been close enough to smell. My neighbors have a beautiful fiery gold/orange little tree, which may be a tulip poplar. I need to get a closer look. It’s lovely.

Lilacs. My parents had a HUGE lilac bush in their front yard while I was growing up – aphids eventually ruined it over the years, no matter how many things my parents tried to keep it alive. I have pictures of me playing peek-a-boo in and around it. My apartment complex recently put in a few lilac “trees” around our building, and I absolutely LOVE the smell of them – they float in when the windows are open, too.

I still like Fall and Spring. Maybe Spring a little more. But, since my birthday is in Fall, I still lke it. I agree fully with the whole spring thing. I love seeing everything turn green and I love to smell the flowers!
